Louisiana SB400 amends Civil Code Articles 189 and 198 to change the prescriptive periods for disavowal of paternity actions. The bill extends the time limit for such actions to 12 years, starting from the child's birth or the day the husband knew or should have known he may not be the biological father. If the mother deceives the father about his paternity, the action must be instituted within one year from the day the father knew or should have known of his paternity, or within 12 years from the day of the birth of the child, whichever occurs first.
