Repeals mandatory fluoridation of public water systems and requires local elections for fluoridation approval.
This bill repeals the mandatory fluoridation of public water systems in Louisiana and requires local elections for fluoridation approval. Public water systems with at least 5,000 service connections must acquire and install fluoridation equipment if their fluoride levels are outside the optimal range. However, fluoridation is only allowed if 15% of registered voters in the precincts served by the water system sign a petition and a local election is called by the governing authority in which a majority of registered voters approve fluoridation.
