Louisiana SB33 mandates the Department of Children and Family Services to manage earned federal benefits for children in foster care.
Louisiana SB33 requires the Department of Children and Family Services to determine within 60 days of a child entering care whether they are eligible for earned federal benefits. The department must apply for these benefits on the child's behalf if they are eligible and not already receiving them. The department must also consult with the child and their attorney to identify an appropriate representative payee and apply to serve as the payee if no other suitable candidate is available.
