Ment Text

Louisiana SB316 amends the Louisiana Public Defender Fund to adjust funding calculations and allocation authority.

Louisiana SB316 modifies the Louisiana Public Defender Fund by changing how the minimum amount appropriated to the fund is calculated. It now multiplies the combined number of district attorney and assistant district attorney warrants by the actual assistant district attorney warrant value, plus a supplement of $15,000 per warrant. The supplement can be used for administrative and contractual obligations. The state public defender is granted authority to allocate the fund for supplemental assistance as required by law. Effective August 1, 2026.
