Louisiana SB123 proposes a constitutional amendment to expand the governor's authority to recommend the suspension or removal of district attorneys and certain judges for cause. If the governor issues an executive order recommending suspension, the Senate may vote to affirm it. If the governor recommends both suspension and removal, the Senate may conduct a trial and vote to remove the official by a two-thirds majority. Officials removed under this amendment are permanently barred from seeking any judicial office in Louisiana.
