Complete·5/29/26

Louisiana HB992 requires the state Department of Education to assign unique student identification numbers to children in certain early childhood.

HB992 mandates the Louisiana Department of Education to assign unique student identification numbers to children participating in publicly funded prekindergarten programs at schools or early learning centers. The law also allows the Department to assign numbers to children in non-publicly funded programs with parental consent. These identification numbers must not be based on social security numbers and must be retained by the child throughout their tenure in early childhood programs and public elementary and secondary schools in Louisiana.
