Louisiana HB979 increases the benefit paid to survivors of qualifying law enforcement officers and firemen from $250,000 to $350,000. This change applies to survivors of officers who die in the line of duty, whether on or off duty. The increased benefit is paid to the surviving spouse, children, or named beneficiary if no spouse or children exist. The law also provides an additional $50,000 for each dependent child. The new benefit amount takes effect on July 1, 2026.
