HB834

Louisiana HB834 regulates animal shelters, requiring hold periods, owner notification, and ownership transfer of unclaimed animals.

Louisiana HB834 mandates that designated animal shelters comply with state and local laws, including a minimum 72-hour hold period if not specified by local ordinances. During this period, shelters must make diligent efforts to identify and notify the owner, including scanning for microchips and maintaining records. Shelters must also keep the animal or its photograph and description available for public viewing. Fosters must return the animal to the shelter unless the hold period ends or ownership is transferred.
