Louisiana HB701 redraws the boundaries for the 39 Senate districts based on the 2020 census. The bill specifies the precincts included in each district and ensures that the districts remain in effect until changed by law. It also ensures that the terms of office for current officeholders are not reduced. The new districts become effective for the 2027 elections upon the governor's signature or the lapse of time for gubernatorial action. For all other purposes, the new districts become effective at 10:00 a.m. on January 10, 2028.
