Louisiana HB6 authorizes Rapides Parish to decide on carbon dioxide sequestration and pipeline permits.

Louisiana HB6 allows the governing authority of Rapides Parish to decide whether carbon dioxide sequestration and pipelines transporting carbon dioxide can be permitted within the parish. The parish can prohibit these activities by passing a resolution or ordinance. Any such prohibition will take effect upon adoption and will override conflicting state laws or regulations. The parish must notify the Department of Conservation and Energy of any such resolution or ordinance. If the bill is signed by the governor or lapses without a veto, it will become effective immediately.
