Louisiana HB59 enacts a new law to provide funding for the office of the district public defender in the 19th Judicial District Court. The law authorizes the governing authorities of each city within East Baton Rouge Parish and the parish itself to pay from their general fund the expenses incurred by the district public defender. These expenses include salaries for public defenders, stenographers, clerks, secretaries, special officers, investigators, and other employees, as well as expenses for stationery, telephone, transportation, travel, postage, hotel, and other official duties.
