HB585

Louisiana HB585 mandates safety measures for small discount retail stores to combat workplace violence.

HB585, the Discount Retailer Workforce Safety and Retention Act, requires small discount retail employers to evaluate their workplaces for risks of workplace violence. Employers must develop safety plans, including measures like installing panic buttons and increasing staffing during high-risk times if needed. Employers must also document incidents of workplace violence and review them annually. The act prohibits employers from retaliating against employees who report incidents or seek assistance. Employees can seek civil remedies for violations.
