HB543

Provides relative to the homestead exemption (OR SEE FISC NOTE LF RV)

Introduced·2/26/26
Ment Text

Louisiana HB543 amends the homestead exemption for property tax purposes.

Louisiana HB543 modifies the homestead exemption laws to include any greater amount authorized by a parish in accordance with constitutional provisions. The bill specifies that the homestead exemption amount applicable in the parish will be referenced instead of a numerical amount. The changes will take effect on January 1, 2027, contingent on the adoption of a proposed constitutional amendment. The homestead exemption exempts the first $7,500 of assessed value of a bona fide homestead from ad valorem taxes.
