Louisiana HB310 modifies the Code of Criminal Procedure to mandate the random reassignment of a defendant's case among all remaining judges in a district court with three or more judges assigned to criminal matters. This reassignment occurs immediately after the defendant files a written motion to waive their right to a jury trial. The bill also allows the district attorney to file a motion to waive the reassignment within ten days of the granting of the jury trial waiver motion, which the district court must then grant.
