Complete·5/11/26

Louisiana HB292 allows landlords to extend the return of security deposits to tenants by up to two months.

Louisiana HB292 modifies the law regarding the return of security deposits for residential or dwelling premises. It permits landlords or lessors to extend the return of these deposits to tenants by up to two months after the lease terminates, provided the extension is agreed upon in writing. If the landlord retains any portion of the deposit, an itemized statement accounting for the retained proceeds and the reasons for the retention must be sent to the tenant within one month after the tenancy terminates or on the agreed date, whichever is later.
