HB284

Louisiana HB284 allows parishes and municipalities with populations under 50,000 to expropriate abandoned or blighted property by declaration of.

HB284 creates a legal framework for parishes and municipalities with populations under 50,000 to expropriate abandoned or blighted property by declaration of taking. The bill defines "abandoned property" as vacant or not lawfully occupied and "blighted property" as declared vacant, uninhabitable, or hazardous. The expropriation process includes notifying the owner, filing a petition, and depositing an appraisal amount into the court registry. The property vests in the governing authority upon the deposit, and the owner can contest the expropriation within 15 days.
