HB249 proposes a constitutional amendment to establish a compensation commission within the legislative auditor's office. This commission will examine, evaluate, and set the salary and other compensation for elected officials. It will also adjust these salaries based on the Consumer Price Index at the start of each new term. The commission will consist of up to 15 members serving a ten-year term. The legislative auditor will provide staff support and compute salary adjustments. The amendment will be submitted to voters in the November 3, 2026 election.
