Louisiana HB242 establishes provisions for deputy constables in St. Tammany Parish. It authorizes each elected constable of a justice of the peace court to appoint one deputy constable, for whose acts the constable shall be responsible. The deputy constable must meet the same qualifications and training as a constable, but need not be a resident of the ward from which the constable is elected. The constable may set the deputy's compensation, which can be paid from fees generated by the constable's office.
