HB223

Re-creates the Department of Children and Family Services

Chamber Passed·4/1/26

Re-creates the Department of Children and Family Services in Louisiana for four more years.

Louisiana HB223 re-creates the Department of Children and Family Services and its statutory entities, effective June 30, 2026, in accordance with the sunset law. The bill sets out the procedure for review and re-creation, which require a separate bill for all statutory entities made a part of the department by law. The statutory authority for the department and its entities will cease as of July 1, 2031, unless the department is again re-created. The bill becomes effective June 30, 2026, or on the day following approval by the legislature if vetoed by the governor.
