Louisiana HB200 allows St. Bernard Parish to regulate and remove unhealthful growths and charge property owners.
HB200 empowers St. Bernard Parish to enact ordinances regulating or prohibiting the growth of grass, weeds, and other unhealthful matter on property. If property owners fail to remove such matter within seven days of notice, the parish can have it removed and charge the owner. If unpaid, the parish can file a lien against the property, which ranks equally with an ad valorem tax lien. The parish may also add these charges to the annual ad valorem tax bill.
