HB1229

Louisiana HB1229 regulates social media use for minors, prohibiting accounts for those under 14 and requiring parental consent for those aged 14-15.

HB1229 mandates that social media platforms prohibit minors under 14 from creating accounts and requires parental consent for those aged 14-15. It mandates account termination for those under 14 and allows account holders or their guardians to request termination for those aged 14-15. The bill also requires platforms to delete personal information upon account termination unless legally required otherwise. It allows the attorney general to enforce the law and impose penalties, including punitive damages for consistent non-compliance.
