HB1189

Provides for charter boat fishing guide licenses

Complete·6/23/26

Louisiana HB1189 mandates freshwater charter boat fishing guides to hold a U.S. Coast Guard captain's license.

Louisiana HB1189 amends existing law to require freshwater charter boat fishing guides to possess a valid United States Coast Guard captain's license, in addition to their state charter boat fishing guide license. This law also removes the requirement for the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries to provide written notice to guides about potential additional legal requirements. The licenses are available exclusively through the Baton Rouge office of the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, issued on a consignment basis with no agent fees.
