This bill provides for the abolition of the office of police chief and the police department in the village of Edgefield. The board of aldermen may abolish the office upon the mayor's recommendation, but it cannot take effect until the end of the current police chief's term or when a vacancy occurs. If the office is filled by a parish officer at the time of the action, the abolition will become effective as provided by ordinance. The mayor and board of aldermen may then contract with any law enforcement entity or officer within Red River Parish for police services.
