Establishes a program to repay medical school loans for Kentucky medical students who commit to practicing in Kentucky.
The bill creates a physician recruitment and retention program to encourage Kentucky medical students to stay in the state after graduation. The Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority will award eligible medical students who commit to providing qualified medical service in Kentucky. Awards will be made in two phases: 20% of the loan principal and interest for the first five years after medical school completion, and 20% for each of the subsequent five years. Failure to provide qualified medical service results in immediate repayment of all outstanding promissory notes and interest.
