HB671

AN ACT relating to the protection of elected officials.

Introduced·2/18/26
Bill Text

Establishes procedures for investigating threats against statewide-elected officials in Kentucky.

The bill creates a new section in Kentucky law to address credible threats against statewide-elected officials. It defines "statewide-elected official" to include the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and other high-ranking state officials. Upon receiving a credible threat, the department or a designated agency must investigate and assess the threat's veracity. If the threat is deemed viable, the department must work with local law enforcement, conduct arrests, provide security, or employ other mitigation tactics.
