HB434

AN ACT relating to posthumous name changes.

Introduced·1/20/26
Bill Text

Posthumous name changes allowed for deceased persons married to those charged with causing their death.

Kentucky HB434 amends the state's name change laws to allow a family member to change the name of a deceased person if the name change resulted from marriage to someone arrested or charged with causing the deceased's death. The family member must follow the same procedures as a living person seeking a name change, and the right to change the name passes to family members in a specific order excluding the spouse.
