HB375

Kentucky HB375 prohibits the use of automated license plate readers and imposes criminal and civil penalties.

Kentucky HB375 introduces a new section in the Kentucky Revised Statutes to prohibit the use, deployment, or maintenance of automated license plate readers (ALPR). ALPR systems are defined as high-speed cameras combined with computer algorithms to convert license plate images into readable data. The bill makes it a Class D felony to use, deploy, or maintain an ALPR system, with a fine of up to $10,000. Additionally, those who use, deploy, or maintain an ALPR system are liable for damages in a civil action. Prevailing defendants in such actions may recover reasonable attorney's fees.
