Kentucky HB287 regulates plastic waste by banning certain plastic items and requiring labeling of plastic containers.

Kentucky HB287 amends state law to address plastic waste. It mandates that rigid plastic bottles and containers be labeled with a resin code. Effective July 1, 2029, retail businesses cannot provide plastic beverage straws unless requested by the customer. Starting July 1, 2031, plastic bags at the point of sale are prohibited unless they are produce or product bags without handles. The bill also limits the release of plastic balloons into the atmosphere. Violators face civil penalties.
