The bill recognizes Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated for their outstanding service to the citizens of Kansas, the nation, and the international community. AKA, founded in 1908, is the oldest Greek-letter organization established by African American college-educated women. The sorority promotes scholarship, service, and advocacy through local, state, national, and international efforts. AKA has chapters across the globe, including the United States, Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, Dubai, Germany, Japan, Liberia, Nigeria, South Korea, South Africa, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
