SB255

Kansas SB255 allows certain inmates to petition for resentencing if specific conditions are met.

Kansas SB255, known as the Second Look Act, authorizes inmates in the custody of the secretary of corrections to petition the court for a resentencing hearing. This applies if the inmate was a minor at the time of the offense, if their veteran status was not considered at sentencing, or if they completed required rehabilitative programming. The court may impose a new sentence if it finds good cause. The victim or their family has the right to testify at the hearing but is not compelled to do so.
