HB2797

Providing for the rounding of final transaction amount for sales tax purposes if payment is made with cash.

Introduced·3/10/26

Kansas HB2797 establishes rules for rounding final transaction amounts for sales tax when cash is used.

Kansas HB2797 sets specific rounding rules for sales tax when transactions are paid in cash. If the final transaction amount is less than $0.05, it rounds up to $0.05 unless exact change can be provided. For amounts over $0.05, transactions ending in 1, 2, or 3, 4, or 5 cents are rounded down or up to the nearest nickel. This rounding applies only to the payment amount and does not affect the sales price, tax owed, or any fees. Noncash transactions must be calculated consistently and transparently at the point of sale.
