Kansas HB2198 enacts the Gun Violence Restraining Order Act, authorizing courts to issue protective orders that prohibit certain individuals from acquiring or possessing firearms. Eligible filers include spouses, former spouses, individuals with a child in common, those in a dating relationship, household members, family members, and others with a close relationship. The court may issue such orders if there is reasonable cause to believe the individual poses a significant risk of personal injury to self or others by possessing a firearm.
