HB2047

Providing for the establishment of an online insurance verification system for the verification of evidence of motor vehicle liability insurance.

Chamber Passed·2/25/25

Establishes an online insurance verification system for motor vehicle liability insurance in Kansas.

The bill mandates that licensed property and casualty insurance companies in Kansas provide verification of motor vehicle liability insurance through an online system. It excludes commercial vehicles unless insurers voluntarily participate. The system will be the sole electronic method for verifying insurance, replacing any existing systems. The commissioner of insurance will establish this web-based system, which must be operational by July 1, 2026. Insurers must cooperate with the commissioner and the Kansas Department of Revenue (KDOR) to implement and maintain the system.
