Kansas HB2006 enables security officers employed by the department of corrections to become members of the Kansas police and firemen's retirement system, effective July 1, 2025. The department of corrections will affiliate with the system and make contributions. Security officers who join the system can purchase previous KPERS service credit for KP&F retirement benefits. The purchase amount is determined by the actuary using the officer's compensation, actuarial assumptions, and age. The employer will deduct 7.15% from the officer's compensation for system contributions.
