This bill allows real property owners to temporarily opt out of solid waste collection and disposal services provided or contracted by a county or city. To qualify, the property must be an eligible homestead for which the owner is receiving a homestead credit. The owner must submit a completed application at least eight weeks before the start of the opt-out period, which cannot exceed five consecutive months. Any associated fees are suspended during the opt-out period.
