Pretrial bond amounts for certain violent felonies in Iowa, effective July 1, 2026.

This bill establishes minimum pretrial bond amounts for specific violent felonies in Iowa. For a class "A" felony, the bond is set at $500,000; for a class "B" forcible felony, $25,000; for a class "C" forcible felony, $10,000; and for a class "D" forcible felony, $5,000. Courts must consider the defendant's danger to others and property when setting these bonds. The bond amounts are presumed reasonable but can be adjusted based on the defendant's financial ability and other factors. The bill takes effect on July 1, 2026.
