SF2284

A bill for an act relating to the use of automated systems that detect traffic violations or registration plate information, and making penalties applicable. (Formerly SF 2034.)

Chamber Passed·3/10/26

Iowa SF2284 regulates the use of automated systems for traffic violations and registration plate information.

Iowa SF2284 amends the state's Code to address the use of automated systems for traffic violations and registration plate information. The bill prohibits sharing historical location information collected by automatic registration plate readers with non-governmental third parties if it could identify another person or vehicle. Violators face a simple misdemeanor charge. It also prohibits local authorities from issuing citations for noise violations detected by automated systems when the vehicle is reducing speed. Citations issued in violation of this provision are void and unenforceable.
