Iowa SF2040 modifies the process for the final disposition of human remains. It vests the authority to control the final disposition of a decedent’s cremated remains in the next competent adult listed in Code section 144C.5 if the original designee fails to exercise their authority within 24 hours of notification of the decedent’s death or fails to claim the remains within 30 days of receiving a written notice from a third party.
