Iowa HSB529 amends existing law to increase the penalty for sexual misconduct from an aggravated misdemeanor to a class "D" felony. This applies to peace officers, department of corrections employees, judicial district department of correctional services agents, county agents, juvenile placement facility agents, and county jail agents who engage in sex acts with individuals in their custody. A class "D" felony carries a maximum five-year confinement and a fine of at least $1,025 but not more than $10,245.
