Iowa HF915 amends the law to protect privileged communications between spouses, except in cases involving child injuries and criminal prosecutions.
Iowa HF915 amends the Code to protect privileged communications between spouses, barring them from being examined in any case regarding communications made while married. Exceptions apply to cases involving child injuries and criminal prosecutions related to neglect, abandonment, nonsupport, and child endangerment. After the marriage ends, neither spouse can be required to reveal communications made during the marriage. If subpoenaed, a person may assert spousal privilege and refuse to reveal any information.
