This bill amends Iowa Code to update the equipment requirements for emergency vehicles and the exemptions for their drivers. It removes the word "official" before lists of authorized emergency vehicles. It mandates that certain emergency vehicles purchased, delivered, or refurbished on or after July 1, 2022, must be equipped with an electric or electronic siren capable of emitting at least two distinct tones and compatible speakers. It also requires these vehicles to have a master warning switch to activate all emergency lights and separate switches for front, side, and rear warning lights.
