This bill establishes rules for determining the venue of criminal trials in Iowa, prioritizing the victim's county of residence unless otherwise.
This bill modifies the venue rules for criminal trials in Iowa. If the county where the crime was committed is unclear, the trial will be held in the victim's county of residence. If the victim is not a resident, not a natural person, or their residence cannot be determined, the trial will be held in the county of the accused's residence. In cases with multiple victims, the trial can be held in any county where a victim resides, with priority given to natural persons. Effective July 1, 2025.
