Property owners can protest proposed zoning changes if they meet certain conditions.
The bill allows property owners to protest changes in zoning districts. A written protest must be signed by a majority of the owners of the lots affected or by owners of 20 percent or more of the property within 200 feet of the affected property. The protest must be filed before or at the public hearing. The change or repeal will not become effective unless two-thirds of the council votes in favor. The council may impose additional conditions on the property owner if agreed to in writing before the public hearing.
