Iowa HF2569 amends the Code to allow cities to recover costs for demolishing abandoned buildings when required to address public safety or health concerns or abate nuisance issues. The city can recover costs from any owner or owners of the structure within the preceding five years if the property owner does not perform the demolition within a reasonable time after notice, the property has been abandoned, property taxes remain unpaid for at least one year, and the property has been cited for causing a nuisance at least six times within the preceding six-month period.
