SB0050

Hard credit inquiries by landlords.

Introduced·12/8/25
Intr Text

Indiana SB0050 prohibits landlords from making hard credit inquiries or using tenant screening reports with such inquiries.

Indiana SB0050 amends the Indiana Code to restrict landlords from making hard credit inquiries for rental applicants. A "hard inquiry" is defined as an inquiry that is noted on the applicant's consumer report and negatively impacts their credit score. The bill also prohibits landlords from obtaining or using tenant screening reports that include information from such hard inquiries. A landlord violating these provisions commits a deceptive act, which is actionable by the applicant and the attorney general.
