Indiana HB1318 amends the state's child abuse reporting laws to require specific actions when a child under five is reported for suspected abuse. A caseworker must physically examine the child for bruises or contusions and, if evidence of abuse is found, take the child into custody, document the trauma with color photographs, and perform a medical examination. If medically necessary, a radiological examination must also be conducted. The department of child services will cover the costs of these examinations. Effective July 1, 2026.
