Grants Indiana investigators with five years of law enforcement or federal enforcement experience the same police powers as other officers.

Indiana HB1214 amends the state code to allow prosecuting attorneys to appoint investigators with the same police powers as other officers if the investigator has at least five years of experience as a law enforcement or federal enforcement officer. These investigators must be approved by the county council and work under the direction of the prosecuting attorney. Effective July 1, 2026.
