Indiana HB1144 creates two new superior courts in Hamilton County, bringing the total to nine. The first judges for these new courts, Hamilton superior court No. 8 and Hamilton superior court No. 9, will be elected in the November 2026 general election and will serve a six-year term starting January 1, 2027. The bill also allows the judges of the Hamilton circuit and superior courts to jointly appoint two additional magistrates to serve the Hamilton County courts. Effective July 1, 2025.
