Indiana HB1105 establishes the Hoosier homestead program to recognize and maintain a registry of farms owned by the same family for at least 100 years. Only farms meeting the familial ownership and agricultural use requirements receive the Hoosier homestead designation and are subject to eminent domain provisions. If a county, city, town, or school corporation exercises eminent domain to acquire a Hoosier homestead, the owner is entitled to testify at a public meeting and must first comply with IC 32-24-1.5 before making a purchase effort.
