The bill honors Pope Leo XIV, the first American-born pontiff, by designating a portion of Interstate Route 80 in Illinois as the "Pope Leo XIV Highway." Pope Leo XIV, born Robert Francis Prevost in Chicago, was raised in Dolton and Riverdale, Illinois. He was ordained as a priest in 1982 and served as a missionary in Peru. The Illinois Department of Transportation and the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority are requested to erect signs at suitable locations to commemorate this designation.
